Today I made a Healthy Chocolate Kale smoothie. Yes, I said chocolate! Yes, it is a green smoothie that taste awesome too! The superfood used in this recipe is Cacao. In my pantry I always have the powder and nibs. Both are great in smoothies and for desserts. Cacao is chocolate in the raw. It is a great source of magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron, and calcium. Cacao is energizing, increases serotonin levels, is an excellent source of antioxidants, helps reduce cholesterol and supports a healthy heart. This is just about half of the benefits of Cacao. Best of all it is chocolate!
I made a few minor tweaks to the original recipe. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! What other ways would you use Cacao?
- Blend all the ingredients together. Makes 2 - 16 oz servings
- For every cup of water add two tablespoons of chia seeds. I make the chia gel the night before and put it in an air-tight container in the fridge. (It should keep for up to a week.) Don't have Chia seeds? Just omit them from the recipe or replace them with 2 tablespoons of Hemp Seeds.
